São Paulo – Representatives of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC) and the Brazilian Trade and investment Promotion Agency (Apex-Brasil) learned more about some of the socioeconomic actions carried out by the Brazilian government to develop the cities that comprise Marajó in the state of Pará. The region was the topic of an exhibit in Brazil pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, United Arab Emirates, that ran through last Sunday (19).

ABCC Dubai office head Rafael Solimeo and Apex-Brasil operations chief Karen Jones met with Brazil's Minister of Women, Family and Human Rights executive secretary Tatiana Alvarenga (pictured) at the end of the exhibition held by the Ministry. Alvarenga showed them some of the 133 development actions of the archipelago that are part of the program Embrace Marajó.

“The challenges of fighting inequality are manifold. So, we're working with many ministries to implement effective public policies at Marajó. Furthermore, we have several partners like the manufacturing and agriculture sectors that help us in this job. The region is increasingly socially and economically developed and ready to receive investments. It's rewarding to show this progress to you,” Alvarenga said, pointing out that they rely on the entities to bring investments to Marajó.

“Presenting the riches of Marajó has initiated a dialogue with Arab partners and business groups so that we can take new investments to the region,” Jones was quoted as saying in a press release about the exhibit. Solimeo told ANBA that the meeting allowed them to get to know the projects in order to learn how to better collaborate with the development of Marajó. The ABCC is involved in possibly holding a mission from the UAE to the archipelago in 2022.

The Embrace Marajó program was established in March 2020 under Brazil's Ministry of Woman, Family and Human Rights and brings together several activities focused on creating jobs and improving dignity, education and health of the population in the region that faces a series of social and economic problems. The international exhibition was aimed at attracting resources to Marajó.

The meeting at Expo 2020 Dubai with representatives of the ABCC and Apex-Brasil also featured other executives of the Ministry of Women, Family and Human Rights and the Embrace Marajó program like Henrique Villa, Suzana Oliveira, Morganna Oliveira, and Ana Reis.
