December 18 is a turning point in Qatar's history: Al Attiyah

Doha: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs H E Dr. Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah underscored that December 18 represents an important turning point in the country's history, as sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani announced the founding of the State of Qatar on December 18, 1878, and since that date, the Qatari people have proven their cohesion, unity, and solidarity despite all the circumstances and difficulties.

In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on the occasion of the National Day, he pointed out that the National Day highlights the value of loyalty, based on complete trust in God, then the homeland and the Amir, as loyalty is the most important element of the progress and renaissance of societies. He added that the founder Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed bin Thani was able to build the State of Qatar with the loyalty of the people, as the loyalty has become a Qatari habit. The people trust their homeland, the Amir, and wise leadership, which takes the best decisions for the benefit of the country and the citizen. 

He underlined that the National Day comes to confirm our loyalty to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, and our loyalty is not limited to obtaining rights only, but also to the duties that we perform in loyalty and sincerity to preserve our national and sovereign gains.

Dr. Al Attiyah explained that the slogan of the 2021 National Day is“Ancestral Meadows: A Matter of Trust,” and the Ministry of Defence believes that ancestral meadows are not limited to their places and homes, but rather include their principles and morals, adding that our ancestors who contributed to the founding of the State of Qatar were distinguished with loyalty, solidarity, and unity, which are the principles of the national vision to guide us to a future full of achievements.

The Deputy Prime Minister explained that the principles of loyalty, solidarity, and unity teach us that the homeland is the entity that is indispensable, no matter how hard the circumstances. Thus, Qatar generously offers the best capabilities to its people, who deserve everything distinct and ideal, in return, we must not neglect our interdependence and unity, and our mission is to advance the country and defend its sovereignty, he added.

He added that on the National Day, we celebrate the stages of development of the State of Qatar throughout history from the era of the founder to the present day, where Qatar has become a model for a successful country that competes in global indicators for the first and advanced positions in health, education and safe life.

The Deputy Prime Minister extended the highest congratulations on the occasion of the National Day to Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and all members of the Qatari people and residents, reiterating the pledge to adhere to the principles of our forefathers and ancestors, and to preserve, protect and defend their land and enhance the values of loyalty and solidarity for our children.
