Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) signed yesterday two cooperation agreements with the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Center (KHCC) in Jordan, to work together on covering the costs of treatment for Syrian refugees with cancer.

Currently, an official delegation from QRCS is visiting the country, consisting of Secretary General, Ali bin Hassan Al-Hammadi; Head of International Relations and International Humanitarian Law, Dr. Fawzi Oussedik and Head of International Development Naglaa Al Hajj. They are accompanied by Head of QRCS's representation mission in Jordan Dr. Mohamed Al-Sousi.

The two agreements were signed by Al Hammadi and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of KHCC HRH Princess Ghida Talal. The signing ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the State of Qatar to Jordan H E Sheikh Saud bin Nasser bin Jassim Al Thani and Nisreen Qatamish Kharabsheh, Director-General of KHCC.

Princess Ghida Talal thanked the State of Qatar and QRCS for their compassionately supporting cancer patients, who have no resources to cover the costs of their treatment, thus giving them a new hope in recovery. Ambassador said,“This cooperation between QRCS and KHCC is a general duty. Qatar is a permanent advocate of humanitarian causes around the world, providing all forms of help as needed and contributing to the humanitarian efforts of Jordan, which typically hosts large numbers of refugees. So, it is necessary to always lend them a hand”. Al Hammadi said,“This agreement is one that further cements friendship and cooperation between Qatar and Jordan. It is inspired by the leading role of QRCS and KHCC in meeting the needs of vulnerable groups. Both sides share the vision of supporting the treatment of cancer patients through QRCS's operations, offices, and missions; referring the patients diagnosed with cancer to KHCC; and strengthening joint efforts to raise funds in Qatar for the treatment of those patients.”The scope of cooperation extends to exchange of experience in training, launch of programmes of mutual interest and benefit, and concerted efforts in relief projects to make sure that poor patients have better access to the highest level of comprehensive medical care.

This agreement is another manifestation of the strong relationship between QRCS and Jordan's charitable, social, and medical organisations, with many projects and programmes implemented by QRCS's representation mission there, together with Jordan National Red Crescent Society (JNRCS). Last year only, these projects reached out to over 78,000 Syrian refugees and locals, at a total cost of over $2.8m.
