Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama has praised Qatar's efforts in supporting education in his country, including the establishment of schools and educational facilities. He was speaking on the sidelines of the inauguration of the school complex, Qatar Lasgush Poradeci, in the capital Tirana.
The Director-General of the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Khalifa bin Jassim al-Kuwari, Qatar's ambassador to Albania Ali bin Hamad al-Marri, and Mayor of Tirana Municipality Erion Veliaj attended the inauguration.
The Qatar Lasgush Poradeci is a school complex that includes an elementary, middle, and high school with an area of 8,000sq m for 1,300 students.
Recently, the QFFD Director-General also inaugurated the 16 September School, consisting of two middle and secondary schools with a total area of 4,000sq m, accommodating 400 students, and visited the Qatar Sunny Hill 'Talat Al-Shams Nursery,' which was inaugurated in November. It consists of a nursery and an elementary school with a total area of 2,000sq m for the benefit of 300 students.
The QFFD Director-General said: 'Around this time last year, the State of Qatar celebrated the start of construction work in the educational facilities and schools that were totally destroyed by the earthquakes in Albania. This unfortunate disaster affected the education eco-system in various areas and prevented children from enrolling in their schools.
'And today, it is with immense pride that we observe children and youth return to schools and see younger generation starting their academic year again with so much excitement, happiness, and enthusiasm.'
The Qatari ambassador praised the efforts and the great role played by QFFD in supporting projects for the reconstruction of Albanian areas affected by the earthquake, through the establishment of three new schools in Tirana, where these schools received great appreciation from Albanian government, which is described as the best schools established so far in the country.
He also pointed out that the opening activities of the three schools that were reconstructed by QFFD received an unprecedented media resonance in Albania, which embodies the depth of the distinguished relations between the two friendly countries and peoples.
In September 2020, Qatar, represented by QFFD, signed a $5mn grant agreement with the Albanian Government to finance the reconstruction of two secondary schools and one kindergarten in Tirana.
The name of the school came from the name of Qatar and Lasgosh Boradzi, a famous Albanian writer.
It is a reminder of the importance of education and culture for building the recovery of countries and societies. (QNA)
