Qatar - Biden issues entry ban on Nicaragua President

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) US President Joe Biden banned Nicaragua's President Daniel Ortega and his wife, as well as members of the Nicaraguan government from entering the United States.

This entry ban decision applies to all who are responsible of undermining or injuring Democratic institutions or impeding the return to democracy in Nicaragua.

Biden Administration believes that the decision is in US interests and comes within the framework of the importance Washington attaches to strengthening democratic institutions in Nicaragua and helping the people there achieve their aspirations for democracy.

On Monday, the US Department of the Treasury announced sanctions against the Nicaraguan Public Ministry and nine Nicaraguan officials as result of the latest election in the country.

The US has threatened to impose sanctions since the Nov. 7 elections, as it believes that the opposition was deprived of running in the elections after the most prominent opponents of the Nicaragua President was jailed.
