Egypt’s agricultural exports hit 5 million tonnes

Cairo – The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation of Egypt announced that agricultural exports of the country reached five million tonnes year to date through October 27, up 600,000 tonnes from a year ago.

Ahmed Al-Attar, head of the Egypt's Central Administration of plant Quarantine (CAPQ), submitted to Agriculture and Land Reclamation minister Muhammad Marzouq Al-Qusayr a report on the volume agricultural exports from Egypt in 2021, including citrus, potatoes, onions, strawberries, pomegranate, sweet potatoes, beans, beets, peppers, mango, garlic, grapes, watermelon.

The minister said in a statement from last week (29) that total citrus exports reached 1.87 million tons, thus leading the list of top exports from Egypt, while potato ranked 2 at 621,000 tonnes, and mangelwurzel ranked 3rd at 576,400 tonnes.

Then came onions at 239,700, grapes (143,300 tonnes), sweet potatoes (80,440), pomegranate (62,400), mango (29,700), beans (21,900), strawberry (19,340), garlic (18,400), guava (11,500), watermelon (8,500), and bell pepper (7,001), the statement went on.

Al-Attar stressed that Egypt sent a CAPQ delegation to Latvia to discuss bilateral cooperation in the trade of agricultural commodities and study the possibilities of importing wheat from the Baltic country, aiming at diversifying suppliers and protecting against the global price rises

The delegation presented plant health and plant quarantine requirements of Egypt, emphasizing its remarkable success in breaking into new markets. Furthermore, prospects for increasing agricultural exports from Egypt not only to Latvia but to other Baltic countries, too, were discussed.
