Ukraine's representative to EU presents credentials to European Council president


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukraine's newly appointed representative to the EU, Vsevolod Chentsov, presented his credentials to European Council President Charles Michel on Monday, October 11, according to a statement posted on the website of the Mission of Ukraine to the EU.

"On October 11 in Brussels, Designated Head of the Mission of Ukraine to the European Union Vsevolod Chentsov presented Letters of Credence to President of the European Council Charles Michel. During the meeting, the interlocutors discussed the priority areas for the Ukraine-EU cooperation and shared expectations from the twenty-third Ukraine-EU Summit to be held on October 12 in Kyiv," the statement reads.

The Ukrainian diplomat said at the ceremony that European integration is a choice of the Ukrainian people and a priority for the state. Chentsov thanked Michel for his personal leadership in making Ukraine-EU relations stronger.

Michel, in turn, noted the progress in the implementation of the Ukraine-EU Association Agreement and expressed support for a comprehensive reform program in the country.

He said that the EU is unwavering in its support of Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity and is ready to strengthen cooperation within the Crimea Platform and in the sphere of energy security.

The Ukraine-EU summit will take place in Kyiv on October 12. European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will represent the EU in talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The summit participants will sum up the results of the implementation of the bilateral Association Agreement and discuss joint efforts in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, regional security issues, including Russia's ongoing aggression against Ukraine.
