WHAT EXACTLY HAPPENED?

According to an official, constable Vijay Singh Gurav was on duty in Andheri when a vehicle came from the wrong side and went towards SV Road.

Vijay Singh Gurav signalled to the car driver to stop but the latter attempted to escape after waving an ID card. Not willing to let him get away, Gurav jumped and sat on the car's bonnet. The driver accelerated the car and the constable was dragged, sitting on the bonnet, for around one kilometre.

Finally, he was thrown off after the car entered a lane, as per an official. Vijay Singh Gurav then rushed to the police station and lodged a complaint against the unidentified car driver.

A case has been registered against the driver under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This includes section 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 279 (rash driving). Further investigation is underway.
