Qatar University honours staff, students at annual convocation ceremony

Doha: Qatar University (QU) organised its annual convocation for the academic year 2021. 

The annual meeting included a welcoming speech by QU President Dr. Hassan Rashid Al Derham. Several awards were also distributed among distinguished students in the academic, administrative, and community service fields.

Dr. Al Derham said:“I greet you with the most beautiful and exquisite welcome, one that is full of pleasure and admiration for you and what you have accomplished, as well as tremendous gratitude for your earnest efforts and contributions in supporting Qatar University's targeted aims. We renew our pledge to move forward and achieve further accomplishments and progress at this annual meeting, which has become an important university event in which we meet with you and a group of distinguished people from Qatar University who shine in the university from every aspect. We renew our commitment to move forward and achieve further progress.”

“On this good and happy occasion, I am pleased to congratulate the winners for their victory and distinction and to extend to them my best wishes for continued excellence, success, payment, and brilliance. I am also pleased to offer my warmest greetings and sincerest invitations to every one of the students of this university for a new academic year filled with reasons of success and supported by determination for excellence, brilliance in performance, and achievement,” he added.

The annual convocation included honouring the distinguished faculty, staff, and alumni. With the assistance of Dr. Omar Al Ansari, Vice-President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Al Derham presented the awards for academic excellence to the winners. The Academic Excellence Award went to Prof. Ahmed Abdel Fattah Mohamed El Zahry, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The Teaching Excellence Award was awarded to Dr. Yasser Yassin Sayed Ahmed Fadl, Associate Professor of Management at the College of Business and Economics.

Excellence in Community Service Award was won by Prof. Abdul Majeed Salem Muhammad Hammouda, Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs at the College of Engineering.

QU President with Dr. Khaled Al Khater, Vice-President for Administrative and Financial Affairs, presented the prizes for the winners of the annual Distinguished Administrative Employee Award.  Abdullah Hamad Al Nuaimi, Aisha Mubarak Al Qahtani, Basil Yahya Mismar, Nada Asad Al Emadi, and Manal Abdul Salam Qassem won in the Supervisory category. 

In the Technical Administrative category, Basma Muhammad Misbah and Sheikha Ali Rafan claimed the honours. Adel Muhammad Mahmoud, Reem Mohsen Al Athba, Idris Lal Al Maliki, Ohoud Taher Alawi, Raja Mahmoud Al Jazaery, Nizar Ahmed Safi were honoured in the Supporting Administrative category.

Besides, Maryam Abdullah Al Thani and Zadjeeh Zahi won in the Academic Support category, and Muawiyah Ahmed, Faisal Kalari Connell claimed the Distinguished Worker category.

The University President presented the Distinguished Graduate Award with Professor Muhammad Al Mohannadi, Director of the Department of Development and Partnerships, to Faisal Muhammad Al Kooheji.

Kamam Al Maadeed, Director of Communication and Public Relations, presented the Distinguished Media Contribution Award, which went Dr. Ali Bakir from the Ibn Khaldun Center for Social and Human Sciences.
