Environmental issues will be among biggest challenges Shura Council to deal with: Ministry official

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) The environmental issues will be among the biggest challenges that the upcoming Shura Council will have to deal with as these are always changing and have different priories, besides the need to use the expertise of specialized technical expertise, Dr Mohamed Saif al-Kuwari, director of the Environmental and Municipal Studies Center at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), has pointed out.

He told Qatar TV that the new council should work to develop the related laws and legislations, spread the culture of loving the environment and maintaining it and promote scientific research in this field. He said that the national plan for climate change is considered one of the most important achievements of the country on the environmental level, especially that a limited number of world countries have such a plan. Accordingly, the elected Shura Council should monitor the implementation of this plan because it needs great effort and support from the legal perspective. He hoped that the new council would offer the necessary suggestions regarding the preservation of the local land and marine environment.

Similarly, Engineer Meshal al-Shamari, director of Qatar Green Buildings Council, stressed the legislative role of the elected Shura Council in combating climate change. He also told Qatar TV that most of the projects of the country implement the green building standards and the council works with many government entities to maintain sustainability in buildings. Accordingly, he welcomed cooperation with the upcoming Shura council in this regard.
