Sputnik V second dose expected in Sri Lanka this month


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) A stock of the second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine is expected in Sri Lanka this month.

State Minister of Production, supply and Regulation of Pharmaceuticals Channa Jayasumana said that Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology in Russia has confirmed that 120,000 doses will be dispatched to Sri Lanka this month.

Gamaleya Institute is the Russian manufacturer of the Sputnik V vaccine from where 150,000 doses were secured and administered to residents in the Kandy District.

Jayasumana said that of the 150,000 a total of 30,000 people have been administered the second dose.

Sri Lanka had been conducting research to decide on the next course of action in the event the required stocks are not received.

According to reports the Sputnik V vaccine is administered in two doses at a gap of 21 days. (Colombo Gazette)
