Iraq: IS rebels assassinate 2 men in Diyala

(MENAFN) A provincial police source stated that on Tuesday, Jun. 22 a father and his son were gunned down on Tuesday by the rebels of Islamic State (IS) in the Iraqi eastern province of Diyala.

Alaa al-Saadi said to Xinhua that the shooting occurred early in the morning, when IS rebels abducted the two close to their house in the town of al-Muqdadiya, around 100 km northeast of Iraq’s capital of Baghdad.

Al-Saadi further said that a joint force from the Iraqi army and police forces, later on, conducted a search operation to capture the rebels and discovered the bodies of the abducted with shots in their heads and chests.

In spite of frequent military campaigns in Diyala, IS remnants are still somewhere out of sight in some rocky areas close to the frontier with Iran and the immense areas expanding from the western part of the province to the Hamreen mountain range in the north of Baquba, around 65 km northeast of the capital.
