China: Urban joblessness rate falls


(MENAFN)Statistics from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealed on Monday, May 17, that China's surveyed urban joblessness rate hit 5.1 percent in April, 0.9 percentage points lower than the same period in 2020.

Compared with the March level, the April number was 0.2 percentage points lower, declared the NBS. A total of 4.37 million new urban jobs were generated in the first four months.

The reviewed joblessness rate among those aged between 25 and 59, the majority of the labor market, hit 4.6 percent in April.

According to the NBS, in the meantime, the reviewed joblessness rate in 31 main cities was 5.2 percent in April, 0.1 percentage points lower than that of March.
