Culture is vital element in Qatar-Poland relations: Ambassador

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: Ambassador of Poland to Qatar H E Janusz Janke has underscored the field of culture as a significant element of the relations between Qatar and Poland as he opened a virtual session on ‘Museulogy in Qatar” which was one of the highlights of the second Arabian Week which concluded yesterday.

''Culture is an important element of the Polish-Qatari cooperation and one of the priorities of the activities of the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Doha. It is a key element of the national identity of Poles and Qataris. That is why it is so important in our activities to seek common cultural and historical experiences of both nations,” said Ambassador Janke.

One of the recent fruits of cooperation between the two nations in the cultural field was the publication of a book by the famous Polish explorer and equine expert Count of Waclaw Seweryn Rzewuski.

''In 2018, thanks to the cooperation between Qatar Museums, the Qatar National Library and the National Library in Warsaw, Rzewuski’s famous work ''Concerning the Horses of the Orient and Those Originating from Oriental Breeds” was released – a scientific edition translated into English. The publication was presented during the 29th edition of Doha International Book Fair,” he said.

This year an exhibition of manuscripts from Rzewuski’s book was organized at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) as part of the Katara International Arabian Horse Festival, he added.

''Arabian horses with Polish pedigree participated and achieved success in the festival itself, which is part of the long-standing tradition of Polish-Qatari cooperation in the field of breeding these beautiful animals,” he said.

Organised by the Arabic Studies Research Group at the University of Warsaw in Poland, the second edition of Arabian Week was held under the patronage of the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Warsaw, the Embassy of the Republic of Poland in Doha and the Qatar-Poland Business Council. One of the focuses of the event was museology in Qatar.

''I am convinced that contacts in the field of museology and research on Islamic art can largely contribute to the development of cooperation and exchange of experiences between Poland and Qatar,” said Ambassador of Poland to Qatar H E Janusz Janke, expressing hope ''that the topics related to Polish-Qatari scientific and academic cooperation will be permanently included in the agenda of the next Arabian Weeks, and that your activities in this area will be a source of inspiration for others.”

Congratulating the organizers of the Arabian Week, he stressed that the idea of the initiative deserves support as it provides access to those interested in the culture of the Arab world. He also discussed relations between Poland and Qatar in various fields.

''Poland and Qatar share a strategic partnership, especially in the energy field, that we are trying to develop and enrich. Each year, Qatar supplies our economy with around 2 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas. In turn, the value of Polish products sold on the Qatari market is estimated at almost $200m,” he said, adding Qatari investments in Poland are on real estate and logistics among other sectors.

''We are also directly connected via air connections thanks to Qatar Airways. We oversee many prospective businesses opportunities arising in the modern technology sectors such as fintech, smart city, or drones,” he said.

''The embassy remains open to cooperation with Polish and Qatari academic centres in the field of student exchange and in the implementation of joint events and research,” he added.
