Ramazan is the most important month for Muslims all over the world. Its significance is utmost as this was the month when our holy book,The Quran was revealed. Therefore, the blessings in this month are abundant. However, Ramadan this year has not been the same as the world continues to be plagued by coronavirus. Many families have not been able to observe Ramadan like they used to. Many families have experienced losses and sufferings because of covid-19. There are people who are hospitalised, fighting for survival. Some with less severe symptoms are being treated at home while some are striving hard to find a hospital bed. Overall, there is an atmosphere of agony and affliction.

It's definitely not our usual Eid.

Nonetheless, Eid calls for celebration. It’s Allah’s blessing to us and those of us who’re in a position to celebrate should do so. In fact, celebrating Eid with even a small celebration can help us navigate optimistically through these testing times but we should refrain from indulging in extravagance.

It's our moral duty to not be disrespectful to those are suffering and most importantly to abide by the restrictions and the covid protocols that have been imposed by the government. This Eid we should ensure that we spend quality time with our family members, friends and relatives, it is absolutely unnecessary to visit relatives and friends, because social mixing at this point can be disastrous.

So, it’s prudent and safe to catch up with our loved ones who don''t live with us over a video call. That way we''re not missing out on anything.

As there is a paucity of medical resources we should try to minimise expenditure and be thrifty. We should use our savings to contribute to our society. It's our duty as humans to help people in these distressing times. We should put off our wants to help people make ends meet.

Thank you for connecting with us. We will respond to you shortly.

Charity is cathartic, it can help us lift our spirits, dispel the gloom. Therefore, do whatever you can in your capacity to help the needy.

Following are some ideas to enjoy Eid as a family, if you’ve been blessed with good health:

  • Decorate your house with any spare decorations or get crafty and make some yourself.

  • Many have chosen to not spend on Eid clothes this time to observe austerity. Nonetheless, wear something clean and less worn. Dressing up uplifts one’s mood instantly.

  • Sit down for video calls with your entire family and call every set of relatives who are close to you.

  • Leave some easy cooking/baking for the day of Eid and do it together as a family.

  • Write postcards for your friends and send them to them virtually through a snap. When things get better, you can gift them in person.

  • Watch a movie together or play board games if available.

  • Donate your Eidhyi to charities and amplify those working for covid-19 assistance as well as the needy.

  • Keep your celebrations private as many are in distressing circumstances. It would be wise and considerate if we don’t advertise our celebrations on social media this time.

Wishing everyone safety and love. Eid Mubarak!
