Egypt signs USD 23 mln deal with Siemens for high-speed electric train


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Jan 14 (KUNA) -- Egypt signed on Thursday a USD 23 million (EGP 360 million) deal with Siemens to build the structure for a fast track electric train which will be covering 1,000 kilometers of railway tracks.
Transportation Minister Kamel Al-Wazir, noted the project will begin following the signing of the fast track electric train deal, which will we linking Ain Al-Soukhna and Al-Alamein, by passing through the new administrative capital, covering 460 km with 15 stations and designed to reach speeds of 250 km/h.
The railway, set to be completed in two years, will create a network of links between the administrative capital city and other new emerging cities, through the transportation of passengers and goods via a modern, fast and secure form of transportation, he added.
The blueprint layout of the engineerial designs of the railway tracks, including other constructional works, are already in place and Siemens will be taking care of organization and networking control units of the electric systems to be used, in addition to manufacturing 34 passenger cabins and 10 cargo cabins for the transportation of goods.
