The Somali army confirmed that eight al-Shabab militants were killed on Sunday, a military officer reported on Monday.

Isak Mohamed Ibrahim, commander of the 260th Unit Division of the SNA, said the eight were murdered as they attempted to attack Somali National Army (SNA) forces in Wajid, a town in the southern Bakol region.

According to him, "The army foiled militants' attempt to inflict casualties on the forces and killed eight of them."

Ibrahim added that in the southern regions, government troops will move forward with operational activities against the militant groups.
