UN decides to remove cannabis, marijuana from dangerous drugs


(MENAFN)A latest decision by the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs to take out cannabis and marijuana from the list of extremely dangerous drugs was criticized by Iran"s ambassador and permanent representative to the Vienna-based international organizations.

On Saturday Mehr quoted Kazem Gharibabadi, Mehr as saying "Cannabis and marijuana are among the most dangerous and addictive drugs and are also prohibited by the law and regulations of the Narcotics Commission."

He further said that, "the use of these drugs for medical purposes is also the responsibility of each country and there is no obligation to implement this decision in this regard."

He also said that, "the use of these drugs is absolutely forbidden in Iran and the country, in accordance with its domestic law and the Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961, continues to take national and strict measures over the illegal use and production of cannabis and related drugs with the aim of protecting public health."
