(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Sept. 24 (Petra)-Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, his Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, and top diplomats of France, Jean-Yves Le Drian and Germany, Heiko Maas, affirmed the continued joint work to find a "true" horizon to achieve a comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution.
In the joint press conference held on Thursday, at the conclusion of the multilateral coordination meeting, hosted by Jordan, and attended by the European Union's envoy to the Middle East peace process, Susanna Terstal, the ministers said the two-state solution, based on international law and approved references, is the way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace.
"Our meeting came at a defining moment in the region, and it reflects our keenness to work together to find real prospects for achieving a comprehensive and just peace based on the two-state solution and on the basis of international law and the approved references, including the Arab Peace Initiative," Safadi told the press.
"We are all concerned about the political deadlock in the Palestinian-Israeli negotiations, and we all realize that progress must be made towards a comprehensive and just peace, which is a strategic choice for us all, and a necessity for regional security and international security in general as well," Safadi added.
Safadi continued: "During the meeting today, which is the third within the framework of joint Egyptian-French-German-Jordanian coordination, our first meeting was held at the Munich Conference at the beginning of 2020."
Then, Safad, said, our second meeting was convened remotely and discussed efforts with partners to find a "real" prospect for relaunching "serious and effective" negotiations on the basis of international law to reach the comprehensive and just peace that we all want and which constitutes the right of all the region's peoples.
To the Kingdom, the Palestinian issue is the essence of the conflict, and resolving it is the key to the solution and a prerequisite to achieving a just and comprehensive peace, according to Safadi.
A comprehensive and just peace cannot snub the Palestinian issue, Safadi noted, adding: "There is no comprehensive, lasting and just peace except with a solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, which establishes an independent and sovereign Palestinian state on the June 4, 1967 lines, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital."
Continuing: "This is the solution we seek, which will achieve real peace", adding: "The moment is critical, and difficult, and we can only continue our efforts."
Safadi stressed that the negotiations should start on the basis of approved references, adding relevant references include international law, previous agreements, the land- for- peace equation.
Today's meeting is a message that we are all interested in advancing towards the Middle East peace and "we are continuing these efforts," according Safadi.
In response to a press question, Safadi said comprehensive peace is a "strategic" choice for Jordan, adding all parties seek this lasting settlement, which will not be achieved unless a two-state solution that meets all Palestinian legitimate rights is realized.
On the two peace agreements the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain have recently signed with Israel, Safadi said: "these peace accords will depend on how Israel deals with them. If Israel works towards achieving comprehensive peace and resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on the foundations that guarantee permanent peace and its acceptance by the people within the approved references."
Accordingly, we will have advanced towards achieving the peace that we all want, and if this is not the case, the conflict will remain open, he noted.
