Cologne mourns the loss of former international Strack

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Bundesliga soccer club 1. FC Cologne mourns the loss of its former champions Gerd Strack. The former international died at the age of 64 as a result of a heart attack. "The sudden death of Gerd Strack hits us deeply. The entire 1. FC Cologne has lost one of its unforgettable heroes," said FC President Werner Wolf.

Strack was champion with Cologne in 1978 and won the DFB Cup three times (1977, 1978, 1983). "We will remember him not only as a player, but above all as a person who has always been close to FC. Our thoughts are with his family, with whom we mourn," said Wolf.

Libero Strack has played ten caps. His only goal to 2-1 against Albania ensured the national team's participation in France in 1984. After a guest appearance at FC Basel, Strack ended his career at Fortuna Dsseldorf in 1988.

"I'm shocked and totally sad. My thoughts are with his wife Emmy and the children. Gerd was even younger than me," said his long-time team-mate Toni Schumacher (66).
