Oman- OLC to implement National Occupational Standards

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat -

In line with its goal to drive human capital development in Oman, the Oman Logistics Center (OLC) is committed to ensure that the full utilisation of National Occupational Standards (NOS) is achieved to leverage the human capital in logistics sector.

According to OLC, the standards are an unidentified area for many people in and out of the working environment.

'Owing to the pivotal role they play in understanding occupational performance, the needs of the industry and of the employment market in terms of current and future training needs, designing and developing training that effectively shape Omani youth to the requirements of the working environment and their individual needs, the NOS have recently come into our lives in Oman,' it said.

Eventually, a fine-tuned environment can lead to a knowledge-based society and further economic development.

'NOS are standards that indicate performance. To put it simply, NOS explain how a job is supposed to be performed, by including not only the knowledge required to perform in the role, but also outline the functions that need to be undertaken and the skills required to do so successfully and effectively, benchmarked against best practice.'

Essentially, NOS are put in place for several reasons, one of which is removing frustration from someone's job, both from the employee's and the employer's perspective. The reason is that one has a very clear picture of what is expected of them and makes sure to fulfil the requirements of the specific role every time. Why is the role of NOS so fundamental in economic development? Because they provide the sector with a clear structure of what needs to be done. Therefore, they can make job roles more productive.

'OLC is committed in ensuring that the full utilisation of NOS is achieved in the sultanate.'
