Tunisian navy rescue 18 illegal migrants

(MENAFN) Eighteen undocumented migrants had their lives saved by naval forces off the Tunisian southeast coast as revealed on Sunday.

Tunisia's Defense Ministry unveiled that the illegal immigrants were African internationals, with 17 of them Sudanese and one Egyptian.

According to the ministry statement, "the rescue operation took place 50 kilometers southeast of the city of Zarzis in the province of Medenine."

It further added that "they confirmed that they had sailed from Libya towards the Italian coast."

This comes shortly after a couple of illegal immigration attempts were thwarted off the coast of Sfax, with the detention of 94 illegal immigrants.
