CID directed to submit reports on high profile investigations


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been directed to submit reports on six high profile investigations.

The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) has directed the CID to submit the reports on investigations conducted on six key cases including on the murder of Rugby player Wasim Thajudeen and journalist Lasantha Wickramatunga.

in June, the Attorney General had ordered Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) C.D Wickramaratne to submit reports on the investigations conducted into four high profile incidents, including journalist Lasantha Wickremetunga and rugger player Wasim Thajudeen.

The August 2006 killing of 17 workers of Action Against Hunger (ACF) and the abduction of 11 young men by a Navy intelligence unit between 2008 and 2009 were the other two cases regarding which the Attorney General had sought reports.

The Attorney General had instructed that investigations into the murders be expedited.

Wickremetunga was assassinated in January 2009. Thajudeen was killed in a car crash in May 2012 which was initially pronounced to be an accident but is currently being investigated as a murder.
