Japanese passport tops the strongest passport list 2019


(MENAFN- Bangladesh Monitor) Dhaka: Japanese passport holds the position of being the strongest in the world and its holders can now obtain a visa on arrival in 190 countries, according to the 2019 Henley Passport Index.
Asian countries seem to dominate the world rankings as Japan was followed by Singapore and South Korea in the second place. Their citizens can travel visa-free to 189 destinations.
Based on the data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA), South Korea has the potential to reach the highest position in the passport index.
Germany and France came in the third place with access to 188 destinations without a visa.
The US and UK both are ranked in a joint sixth position having access to 185 destinations.
At the bottom of the 2019 ranking lie Iraq and Afghanistan with access to just 30 visa-free destinations.
In 2019, China stands in the 69th strongest position and its citizens have access to 74 countries without having a prior visa.
United Arab Emirates holds 22nd place having the doors of 164 countries open for them due to signed agreement with countries such as Mexico, Japan and Sierra Leone.
Since the start of index, there has been a positive trend towards visa openness and mutual agreements between nations.
In 2006, historical data showed that an average citizen had access to 58 countries without having a visa. By the end of 2018, the number went up to 107.
