Brazilian film festival taking place this week in Amman

São Paulo – The Embassy of Brazil in Amman and the Royal Film Commission Jordan are hosting the Brazilian Film Days festival. The event is part of celebrations of the 60th anniversary of Brazil-Jordan diplomatic ties, and of the 35th anniversary of the opening of the Embassy of Jordan in Brasília and the Embassy of Brazil in Amman.

Celebrations also include the art showContemporary Brazilian Art, A Short Perspective , held by the Embassy of Brazil and the Jordan National Gallery of Fine Arts. The show was slated to end June 27, but got extended through July 7.

The film festival began on Sunday (30) with a screening of The Last Stop (pictured above), a Brazilian-Lebanese production telling the story of Tarik, a Lebanese who migrated to Brazil in the 1950s with his brother Karim. Lead actor Mounir Maasri attended the festival opening and spoke with the audience.

On hisFacebookpage, the actor said the movie is a 'landmark' of Lebanese immigration to Brazil. 'The first Brazilian-Lebanese film coproduction, The Last Stop is proving to have the power to bring back the audience's memories of their own emotionally-charged stories,'said Maasri. 'May other productions follow, tapping into the power of audiovisual to reveal to up-and-coming generations the personal dramas of the immigrants who helped build Brazilian society,' he added.

The festival continues this Monday (1) with a showing of João, o Maestro, by Mauro Lima, which tells the story of the Brazilian pianist and conductor João Carlos Martins.

Tuesday (2) will see a screening of Arábia, by João Dumans and Affonso Uchoa, a film about construction worker Cristiano, killed in a factory accident in Ouro Preto, Minas Gerais.

The Wednesday (3) movie will be O Filme da Minha Vida, directed and starred by Selton Mello. The main character is Tony, a son to a French father and a Brazilian mother, who returns to his native countryside Rio Grande do Sul. French star actor Vincent Cassel plays Tony's father.

The Thursday (4) showing will be Bach in Brazil, by Ansgar Ahlers of Germany. It tells the story of German music teacher Marten Brueckling, who travels to Ouro Preto looking for the original of a score written by one of Johann Sebastian Bach's sons. There, he starts teaching music lessons to local children.

All showings will take place at the Royal Film Commission in Amman, Real de Cinema, at 8 pm (local time).
