Mauritanian Constitutional Council announces Ould Ghazouani as Pres.


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RABAT, July 1 (KUNA) -- Mauritanian Constitutional Council announced on Monday that Mohammad Ould Ghazouani as president after winning the June 22 presidential election.
Accordingly, President-elect Ould Ghazouani will assume office upon completion of his predecessor's term on August 2, the council said in a press conference.
It also noted the rejection of the appeals received from the other candidates due to lack of evidence.
Mauritania's National Independent Electoral Commission announced on the 23rd of last month the victory of Ould Ghazouani in the first round of elections by a majority of the votes in the presidential elections, with 52 percent of the votes.
This is the first presidential elections in which the transfer of power between elected presidents in this Arab and Islamic country, which witnessed many military coups. (end)
