(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GAZA, June 25 (KUNA) -- A general strike and demonstrations were held in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, protesting a US-suggested conference due in Manama today to discuss a Middle East peace plan.
The conference is to focuse on the economic aspects of the long-awaited "deal of the century".
The event was denounced by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, while Hamas in Gaza called for a boycott of the event.
In Gaza, stores, public offices and universities shut down after Hamas launched a strike. Hamas will also organize a rally this evening to denounce the gathering.
The demonstrations will continue on Wednesday in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. (end)
