DRC: tribe battles claim 21 lives

(MENAFN) Local authorities declared that over 21 people have died as 11 more were uncounted for after a village in the northwestern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) was stormed on Tuesday night.

Pilo Kakoraki, a local official confirmed that gunmen from the Lendu community stormed a group of fishermen in Tara village along Lake Albert in Djugu, Ituri Province.

Kakoraki added that for multiple months, the group has been active in the Djugu region and has been foiled by the army.

Around 50,000 people have escaped the restive Djugu region in the last two years, after new disputes between the two tribes of Hema and Lendu due to land disputes in Ituri Province.
