ST JOHNS, Antigua – Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the appointment of Jamaican senator Don Wehby chairman of a task force on corporate governance reform, to help ensure that the organisation reforms its governance to achieve greater transparency and accountability to shareholders, as well as all stakeholders.

'Senator Wehby is an independent business executive, who brings a wealth of experience in corporate governance,' said CWI president Ricky Skerritt. 'We could not be more pleased to have someone with his considerable expertise lead this task force.

'For CWI and the game in the West Indies to succeed in the long term, we must rebuild the trust of our fans and our key stakeholders. That is not going to be easy because we have to convince some very important people that corporate governance advancement is in all of our interests.'

'Wehby underscored the value of strong corporate governance for any organisation to succeed. It has to be an essential part of doing business, and I am excited to be working with a leadership team that is so focused on quality and integrity. I look forward to leading the reform of CWI's corporate governance and enhancing its culture and reputation to build a stronger governing body.'

Skerritt said the board-commissioned Patterson report and others which had recommended several significant changes to the organisation would be the starting point of the review.

'What we have to do now is go back, dust off those reports and use them to see which of the governance changes are still relevant and which ones we can implement as quickly as possible.'

Cricket West Indies is preparing for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 England and Wales and the Windies' home series against India in July/August.

Commenting on players performance at the Indian Premier League, West Indies legend Brian Lara said, "England can be tricky, which is great. When I played in England, I enjoyed it. I think the key to performing in England is knowing your game, knowing your limitations and playing accordingly, assessing conditions very quickly.

'The better mindset wins, Lara said: "The key battle in cricket is always the mental battle. That's something you cannot show. But it's there, always simmering, playing on your mind. The team that wins that, wins half the battle.'

Amid changes to West Indies cricket, Skerritt previously stated, 'what we are now enforcing ahead of the upcoming World Cup is a new approach to strategic thinking while reviving authentic West Indian team spirit."
