House gutted in UAE building fire


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The Ajman Civil Defence managed to control a fire that broke out in an apartment of a building yesterday (March 18). The building is located in the Ajman Industrial area.

No casualties have been reported in the incident.

Lieutenant-Colonel Rayed Obaid Al Zabbi, the deputy director of Ajman Police clarified that the fire was not too huge and has only partially damaged the apartment. This is because of the quick response of the firefighters who not only controlled but also prevented the fire from spreading to other apartments.

The firefighters, police patrols and the ambulance reached the site as soon as possible after the fire broke out on Monday (March 18) morning. The firefighters evacuated the building to save people from suffocating on fire smoke.

The fire was doused using water and the site was handed over to the concerned authorities for investigation after the completion of the cooling operation.

Al Zabbi also urged building residents to evacuate premises immediately after hearing alarms and use emergency exits close to their apartments.

The residents are also advised to safely use the electric appliances in their homes and to diligently follow the fire safety precautions and rules and regulations to the core.

The Ajman Civil Defence is also planing to launch new fire regulations called 'Hassantuk' (protect you), which is a project that ensures quick response to fire-related accidents to prevent death and injuries.

The authority has also mandated building owners to link their properties with operation room as part of the Hussnak project introduced by the Ministry of Interior (MoI) to help firefighters in reaching the accidents sites without delay and prevent the loss of lives and properties. causing suffocation

According to official figures, 40 fire accidents took place in residential apartments during the last year causing three deaths along with causing people to suffocate as a result of fires.

The civil defense has also intensified the inspection and awareness campaigns targeting the owners of the buildings asking them to follow fire safety regulations including the installation of all types of fire-control equipment to ensure the safety and security of residents.

The awareness campaigns also target homemakers and domestic help to make sure they know how to use fire extinguishers and also be aware on ways to act during a fire-related emergency.
