2.4m migrants enter EU 2 years ago


(MENAFN) The European Union (EU) witnessed the entry of around 2.4 million immigrants in 2017 from non-EU member countries.

EU's statistical office Eurostat revealed on Thursday "in addition, 1.9 million people previously residing in one EU member state migrated to another member state."

According to official reports, 4.4 million migrants entered an EU-member countries while 3.1 million immigrants departed an EU member state.

Eurostat confirmed "among these 4.4 million immigrants during 2017, there were an estimated two million citizens of non-EU countries, 1.3 million people with citizenship of a different EU member state from the one to which they immigrated."

It added "around one million people migrated to an EU member state of which they had the citizenship, and some 11,000 stateless people."
