Doha: The Qatar Mobility Innovations Center (QMIC) yesterday announced the launch of its Smart Heat Stress Monitoring Solution, the latest addition to its innovative suite of smart solutions built using local technologies and know-how.

The main objective of this solution is to monitor and calculate the Heat Stress index (HSI) in real time, which is the global standard indicator to determine the effect of heat on the human body. If HSI exceeds a certain specified limit, the weather is deemed too dangerous for manual labor and all work must be halted. This solution is considered the first of its kind in the region, and provides a smart, automated and comprehensive system for observing heat stress to support workers' occupational safety, in particular, and public health, in general.

HSI monitoring has been covered and identified by The Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs in Qatar as one of the most vital safety precautions that all worksites must abide by. The announcement of this solution coincided with QMIC's participation in the EnviroTeq exhibition being held along AgriteQ in the Doha Exhibition & Convention Center. The solution overcomes the shortcomings of current monitoring methods through integrating QMIC's innovative monitoring stations with its smart IoT platform for data storage, management, and delivery.

On the launch of the Smart Heat Stress Monitoring Solution, Dr. Adnan Abu-Dayya, the Executive Director of QMIC commented by saying: 'We are very pleased with introducing an innovative solution that can finally automate the process of monitoring heat index conditions in a timely and accurate manner so that proper actions can be taken to enhance workers' safety and the public safety at large.

'As one of the first IoT technology enterprises in the region, we are pleased to offer yet another IoT smart solution that uses our own IoT platform and leverages our extensive sensor development capabilities. On this occasion, we would like to express our sincere thanks to many key national partners who successfully piloted the solution in Qatar in the last 12 months and we look forward to announcing our first large scale deployment in Qatar soon, he added.
