Indonesian police nab suspect of trafficking endangered turtles


(MENAFN) Police declared that an Indonesian man was nabbed in eastern Papua province for trying to sneak at least 2,000 endangered turtles.

Spokesman of provincial police Musthofa Kamal confirmed that the police confiscated up to2,227 of the species, which were locked in large boxes on a boat in Yos Sudarso sea port of Merauke district in the province.

He added: "The police suspected on three big boxes carried by port workers at the sea port. Then the police asked them to open the boxes. The boxes contain pig-nose turtles. These are protected species."

The man suspected to be the trafficker was arrested as he could not reveal the license for the possession of the animals, according to Musthofa. €ƒ
