Day 6 Of Protests, Shutdown In Kargil Thousands Form Human Chains


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) KARGIL — Shutdown and protests continued for the sixth day here against the new divisional set up of Ladakh, with thousands of people hitting the streets to form a kilometer-long human chains.

People from Sankoo sub division, Tai Suru block, Barsoo, TSG block, Minjee, Drass Sub-division, Batalik, Shakar Chiktan, Wakha, Shargole protested while demanding equal representation and share in Ladakh Division.

The Joint Resistance Committee, which spearheads the agitation to demand rotational headquarters between Leh and Kargil addressed media persons at Islamia School Chowk about the future course of action.

The JRC warned that the people of Kargil were running out of patience and the government will be responsible for any consequences.

The Governor's administration has formed a high level committee to determine the scope and size of division level offices, their staffing and location for the newly constituted division for Ladakh region. Acting CEC LADC Kargil Nasir Munshi asked the district officers to abstain from duty and support the cause.

He said the LAHDC Kargil has passed a resolution against the SRO 110 and there will not be any communication in the name of Ladakh Division till the SRO is amended.

The JRC has called for post-Friday protests from Hozia Ilmia Isna Ashirya Kargil, Jamia Masjid Hanfiya and Sofia and the people have been asked to march towards Baroo.

Meanwhile, the Ladakh Buddhist association (LBA) Zanskar has called for an agitation for a separate district and assembly seat for the Zanaskar area. The PDP and National Conference have accused the Governor administration of trying to politicize the issue,

National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah lashed out at the Centre and the Jammu and Kashmir Governor S P Malik-led administration, saying the people were being "denied" their rightful share in the newly constituted Ladakh division.Abdullah said the people of Kargil were "being punished only to pursue the agenda of divisive politics"."All along, it was decided that the division headquarter will be positioned on a rotational basis between Leh and Kargil and all the departments to be divided equally between the two districts. But the incumbent government issuing an SRO in favour of only one district has severely dented the genuine aspirations of people in Kargil and adjoining areas," he said.

The Centre is "playing with fire" in Jammu and Kashmir by "implementing" BJP's agenda through Governor Satya Pal Malik, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti alleged Wednesday, accusing New Delhi of "trying to break the Muslim-majority character" of the state.She alleged that the Central government, through the governor, is taking decisions which are against the people and the common sentiment of Jammu and Kashmir.
