By Rufiz Hafizoglu – Trend:

Turkey will resume flights to Iraq's Sulaymaniyah, Trend reports referring to a statement by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey.

The flights from Istanbul to Sulaymaniyah, located in northern Iraq, will be resumed on January 25 this year.

The flights were cancelled on October 29, 2017 as a sign of protest against the 'independence' referendum in Iraq's Kurdish Autonomous Region.

On March 13, 2018, the Iraqi government lifted the ban on international flights to Erbil and Sulaymaniyah.

The Kurdish Autonomous Region of Iraq held an 'independence' referendum on September 25, 2017, which was not recognized by the international community.
