National Museum promotes Omani heritage globally

(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- Jamal bin Hassan al Mousawi, director general of National Museum, has informed that the sultanate, represented by the National Museum, has been chosen as the guest of honour by the National Art Museum of the Republic of Belarus that is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year.

The exhibition currently being prepared for participation in Belarus revolves around the Omani handicrafts industry.

'We are working intensively with the most prominent artisans in the various governorates of the sultanate to prepare the pieces needed to be exhibited in Belarus,' Mousawi said.

In an interview with Oman Radio, Mousawi said that in the three years since its opening, National Museum has expanded horizons of bilateral cooperation through numerous memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and specialised contracts. 'International relations is one of the main fields on which the museum's objectives is based. Promoting and introducing the cultural heritage of Oman outside the sultanate and conveying its historical image to target groups beyond its borders is one of the goals for which the National Museum was established,' he said.

According to Mousawi, an MoU is currently under way with the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan, while agreements with the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Qatar Museums Authority, General Directorate of Antiquities and Museums in Syria, Directorate General of Antiquities and Museums in Lebanon, National Foundation of Museums of the Kingdom of Morocco and the National Museum of Nepal are in the pipeline. These MoUs represent some of the external work currently pursued by National Museum.
