U.N. Security Council considers taking action for Myanmar

(MENAFN) The U.N. Security Council is contemplating to urge Myanmar to work with the United Nations to address the Rohingya refugee crisis.

The outlined decision aims to put a timeline on the country, allowing over 700,000 Rohingya Muslim refugees to return from Bangladesh, and tackling accountability.

The Rohingya have escaped Myanmar"s Rakhine state since August 2017, when attacks on security posts by Rohingya rebels aroused a military crackdown, which many countries described as ethnic cleansing.

The outlined decision would warn that the 15-member Security Council could consider further steps, including sanctions, if progress was not made by Myanmar.
