Saudi- UN Human Rights Council, Unanimously, Adopts KSA Universal Periodic Review Report

Geneva, Rabi'I 1, 1440, Nov 9, 2018, SPA -- United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) approved adoption of the third periodic report of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) following discussing it, last Monday.
The announcement came, at a meeting held here today for the adoption of the report by the Working Group on the Comprehensive Review, which contains recommendations submitted to the Kingdom.
Following the adoption of the report, President of the Human Rights Commission Dr. Bandar bin Mohammed Al-Aiban made a statement, in which he thanked the President of the Human Rights Council for his efforts and prudent management to make the work of the Council a success .
He thanked also the Troika Group comprising China, Tunisia and Belgium and the Universal Periodic Review Secretariat, for their great efforts to facilitate the review process for the Kingdom.
Dr. Al-Aiban stressed Saudi Arabia's keenness to cooperate with the Human Rights Council, its mechanisms and procedures, particularly the Universal Periodic Review mechanism, which is considered with great interest in contributing to improving human rights situation, in the world, in a constructive framework based on equality, cooperation and understanding of the cultural diversity of countries and societies, enriching the deliberations of this Council.
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has received 258 recommendations on various human rights issues, he said, stressing that these recommendations are positively considered and will be studied, in the Kingdom, within the framework of specialized committees and working groups, including governmental and non-governmental bodies, in collaboration with civil society organizations.
Al-Aiban pointed out that the recommendations contained in the report of the Working Group on the Universal Periodic Review, including an impartial and transparent investigation into the issue of the citizen Jamal Khashoggi, are in line with the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques' directives to make a comprehensive and transparent investigation, in order to hold accountable anyone involved in that affair and to review procedures and the structures to prevent recurrence of such a sad and painful event, in the future, in addition to ongoing investigations, in the Kingdom, on this subject.
