DOHA: Eid Al Adha Festival 2018 at Souq Al Wakra attracted big number of families along with children on second day of Eid. The festival will continue till Sunday. The festival is organised by the Private Engineering Office to engage children with several colourful activities during the Eid holidays.

Talking to The Peninsula, Khalid Saif Al Suwaidi, Head of Souq Al Wakra said: 'On behalf of Souq Al Wakra, we wish Eid Mubarak to people living in Qatar. We inaugurated the festival yesterday at 3:30pm and will continue till Sunday.

'This year we have organised the festival in a new manner and none of the activity was repeated from the last year. We have organised this festival just for families and children. Various playful activities at the festival are free of cost for children with disabilities. We are providing care-takers as well male and female both depending on the family's requirement.

Speaking about the activities, Al Suwaidi said: 'We have 25 different games at the festivals especially designed for kids. We have face painting, drawing, painting, skill games, video games and many more games for kids. We have pony rides located outside the festival tent, which is again very exciting for kids.

He said that the management was organising four one-hour long shows daily filled with entertainment. 'The performers have come from four different countries which include, England, Spain, Lebanon and France. The cost of games and shows are only QR10 which is very reasonable just to maintain the decorum of the festival.

The family beach located at Al Wakra Souq is also now open for families as the development works have come to an end. Now Families can enjoy swimming at Souq Al Wakra beach as well. 'We have finished making changing rooms, shower area and bathrooms. We are providing life jackets for the safety purpose and we have life guards at the beach too, said Al Suwaidi.

Families with children enjoyed live shows followed with a number of activities including skill games, video games and many more fun-filled activities. These activities are held inside an air-conditioned tent at the western part of Souq Waqif.

'Every year we enjoy festivals organised by the souq. Because Souq Al Wakra is only for families we prefer coming here to enjoy the fun-filled environment. The venue is perfect for summer seasons, we can enjoy food and walk on the beach-side whereas the kids can enjoy the activities being provided by the festival, said Omer, a Qatari national at the festival. Aside from the games and toys, the festival is also offering a number of eateries, cafes, and other services.

Fatima, a mother of two kids said: 'Such festivals make these holidays enjoyable for kids. Every year we witness such spectacular shows performed by the skilful performers. The exciting ride of ponies make our kids more excited, which will lead us coming here for another day to enjoy the ride. Souq Al Wakra has a very clean and safe environment which is another treat to Souq.

Families claim that souq is more enjoyable than malls, where kids can enjoy outdoor activities as well. Malls are fully air-conditioned which make them lazy easily and they are unable to enjoy the fresh air. 'We enjoy such festivals especially which are organised at Souq Al Wakra because we live nearby and there is a beach where we can enjoy swimming and play games at the festival as well. We have our care-takers who help us manage going to beach, eating and playing at the same time, said a local kid, Nasir Al Khalil.
