Oman- Agricultural logistics project coming up at Salalah port


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Muscat- An agricultural logistics service project, developed by Arabian Marine Ports Services Company in cooperation with Spanish firm Algeposa, is coming up at Port of Salalah.

The first stage of the project includes a 25,000sq m facility to store 60,000 tonnes of bulk grains. It includes equipment that can handle 15,000 MT of cereals per day, in addition to providing value added services, such as quality control and packaging.

The second stage, which is under planning, targets increasing the facility to 500,000 MT.

Andrew Dawes, CEO of Port of Salalah said the project will make the port a hub for agricultural goods in the future.

The regional manager of Algeposa said that about US$5mn will be invested in the project, the biggest for the company outside Europe.

He stressed the importance of the strategic location of Salalah port which is near the key consumption centres in the MENA region. Salalah port management aims to create new business opportunities that will contribute in the growth of shipping and logistics services.
