MIRANSHAH: A local leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) escaped unhurt in a bomb attack on his vehicle in North Waziristan tribal district on Wednesday.

Local sources said the PTI leader Saeed Khan's vehicle was attacked with an improvised explosive device (IED) planted on the roadside in Shana Khwara area of Hamzoni in North Waziristan. The vehicle was damaged in the blast, however, the PTI leader remained safe.

The Pakistan Army personnel immediately reached the spot and launched a search operation in the area. However, there were no reports about any arrest.

Wednesday's attack on the PTI leader signifies the importance of enhanced security measures in the erstwhile tribal region and rest of the country for ensuring the upcoming general elections in a peaceful and transparent manner. Keeping in view the security requirements, the Election Commission of Pakistan has requested the Defence Ministry to approve deployment of 350,000 military personnel for security duty during elections.
