KUWAIT CITY, March 19: The Single-Window Department at Ministry of Commerce and Industry has received 2,640 applications for operating mobile kiosks since launch of the registration process until end of last week, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting informed sources They revealed that the concerned department approved only 704 of these applications, and the remaining 1,806 were rejected as they did not meet the necessary criteria.

Regarding the limited freedom license, the sources said the department received 1,759 applications for such licenses, out of which only 548 were approved while the remaining 1,161 were rejected due to lack of merit. They indicated that rejection of such applications is a normal phenomenon, because it is a new process in the local market, stressing that a large number of applicants believed they were qualified but that was not the case.

Meanwhile, Ministry of Commerce and Industry has been considering the inclusion of trailers among mobile grocery stores. The sources indicated that the addition of mobile trailers is aimed at providing youth with more opportunities to engage in private businesses. They explained that the department is aware that mobile vans are expensive and cost within the range of KD 5,000 and KD 10,000. This is excluding the cost of furnishing them. However, trailers do not cost more than KD 1,000. The sources said, 'There is hope that the decision concerning technical conditions governing granting of licenses for operating trailers will be issued within the next few weeks'.
