All IITs to have atleast 14% female representation

IIT-Kanpur has been given the responsibility of writing the seat allocation algorithm which will help all IITs to ensure that the number of female students on each campus is at least 14%.
The decision was taken in a Joint Admission Board meeting on Saturday as part of the government's goal to increase female representation in IITs to 20% of total students, by 2026.

"A consensus has been reached among the IITs and the JAB decided to ensure 14% supernumerary seats for girls. The numbers of the girls in the common list will not be calculated in the 14%, which means there will be more girls," said the MHRD.

Notably, this push to increase female representation in IITs will not come at the cost of other students.
This 14% leap will be achieved through a separate "supernumerary" list which will be prepared for the coming session, over and above girls short-listed in the common admission list.
MHRD has specified that the list has to be supernumerary and cannot affect common admission of students.
