Int'l Coalition welcomes new UN envoy to Yemen

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Feb 28 (KUNA) -- The Spokesman of Coalition Forces in Support of Legitimacy in Yemen Colonel Turki Al-Malki paid tribute to efforts exerted by former UN envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Chiekh Ahmad and welcomed his replacement Martin Griffiths.

In a weekly press conference Wednesday, Al-Turki wished the new UN envoy to Yemen all success, noting that the Coalition also welcomes the opening of the office of the UN special envoy in Yemen's provisional capital of Aden.

Al-Turki called on all UN and non-government organizations dealing with the Yemeni affairs to follow suit, in accordance with Paragraph II of Article 41 of the Vienna Agreement on Diplomatic Relations, which states that the parties should communicate with the government and its foreign ministry wherever it was, noting that the Yemeni foreign ministry is currently operating from Aden.

The spokesman also said the former envoy's serious endeavors to bring about peace to the embattled country were in most cases derailed to impasse by armed Houthi militias' intransigence and ignorance of the international regulations and laws, expressing deep appreciation for his efforts in this regard.

Al-Malki reiterated the Coalition's firm position towards the importance of coercing the coup militias in Sanaa to obey and get committed with the international community resolutions as well as the three references of the political solution in Yemen, citing that the final report submitted by the UN experts team affiliated to the Sanctions Committee in Yemen, which was issued on 28 February 2018 is welcomed in general by the Coalition.

In this regard, Al-Malki expressed welcome of the Coalition of the concrete evidences that confirm the involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting terrorist organizations, citing ballistic missiles, drone planes, speed boats, and mines, all contributing to further aggravating the crisis in Yemen, triggering and spreading chaos in the region.

He drew the attention that the Coalition has strongly demanded inserting names of some figures who were detected by the report to the list of those to be sanctioned as outlawed. (end) mdm.mb
