Pakistan celebrates 142nd birth anniversary of founder Jinnah


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Pakistan celebrated yesterday the 142nd birth anniversary of the country's founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah, revered as the Quaid-e-Azam the 'Great Leader.
The national flag was hoisted at many public and private buildings across Pakistan, including in his hometown Karachi.
The day dawned with prayers at Jinnah's mausoleum in Karachi.
A changing of the guard ceremony was also held.
A number of events, including seminars, debates and exhibitions, were held both at official and civil society levels to highlight Jinnah's life and achievements as well as the different aspects of his personality.
In separate messages on the occasion, President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi urged the nation to unite for the noble cause of national progress and prosperity.
The president said that the ideal way to pay tribute to Jinnah is not to hesitate from any sacrifice for the development and prosperity of the motherland.
Hussain said the relevance of Jinnah's teachings and thought increases with every passing day, pointing out that the country's founding father had given the people the golden principles of unity, faith and discipline using his foresight and political acumen.
Abbasi said in his message that this day has a special significance for the nation because it is a day to reiterate the resolve for reviving the Jinnah's thoughts and move forward with his ideas.
He said that the people should reflect on how much the nation has succeeded in achieving the highest objectives set by Jinnah.
