Cultural, entertainment shows mark QND celebrations at Al Rayyan Sports Club

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) A series of cultural and entertainment shows marked the Qatar National Day (QND) 2017 Associated Activities at the Al Rayyan Sports Club on Monday, attracting a large number of Filipino expatriates who took part in the historical event.

The opening salvo featured a 2km fun run, dubbed as 'Takbo Handog sa Qatar (Run for Qatar) at the oval track, which was participated by a large number of Filipino expatriates in the country.
The sports activity was organised by the United Filipino Organisations in Qatar (UFOQ), in collaboration with the Filipino International Triathletes Club Qatar Chapter (FITQ) and supported by various organisations under UFOQ.
'This activity is aimed at uniting Filipino expatriates in the country to show our gratitude to Qatar, which we all consider our second home, United Filipino Organisations in Qatar chairman Henry Dimaano said in a statement.
'We want to make a memorable and significant contribution to the nationwide celebration through this fun run wherein different Filipino community groups are represented, he stressed, as he thanked all those who took part and volunteered to make the event a success.
The runners have been divided into three batches: Group A (fast runners), Group B (intermediate), and GC (fun run pace/speed). First three finishers from the male category, female category and children below 13 years old received some awards from the organisers.
The second part of the event witnessed a ‘school students' parade led by the Scholars International School Doha (SISD), Modern Indian School (MIS), Philippines International School Qatar (PISQ), and Philippines School of Doha (PSD).
Members of the Filipino, Indonesian, and Malaysian communities in Qatar also held a parade followed by thematic shows, and song and dance competitions led by PISQ, SISD, PSD, Doha Modern Indian School, and Olive International School.
Several entertainment shows and cultural performances such as the Indonesian Puspa Qinarya - Bajidor Kahot, Mrs Rini song, and Tari Kipas; Philippine Dance Troupe and song, and the Malaysian Tabla, traditional dance and Kompang (hand drums) enthralled the crowd with their presentations on stage, including a Indonesian saxophone play by Budi Wahono.
The Bayanihan Group Dancers, Philippine Versatile Dance Movers, and Royale Qatar Dancers, as well as songs from The Rooks Band, also entertained QND attendees with their shows.

The Associated Activities at various locations in Qatar, including Al Rayyan Sports Club, form part of the QND celebrations this year, organised in association with the Ministry of Interior and Asian expatriate communities, schools and companies.
