(MENAFN- Arab Times) KUWAIT CITY, June 22: The Court of Appeals presided over by Judge Ibrahim Al-Obaid has reopened the doors for argumentation in the case filed against 70 citizens including current and former MPs, activists and politicians who were accused of storming the parliament building. The court has set July 5th session for the Public Prosecution to present an extract of the death certificate of the eighth suspect Falah Al-Sawagh, to bring the 50th suspect Abdulaziz Al-Munayes from jail and for Waleed Al-Tabtabaie and others to be assigned lawyers for their defense. The court commissioned lawyers Hassan Alhoutari and Ena'am Haidar at the court's expense to defend the suspects who were not assigned lawyers. It prohibited mobile phones and electronic gadgets in the court session and ordered the presence of officers from the Special Forces of Ministry of Interior. Earlier, the Eighth Circuit of the Court of First Instance had acquitted all the suspects of the charges filed against them, but the Public Prosecution appealed the verdict.
Syrian jailed: The Criminal Court has sentenced a Syrian to 193 years and 8 months in prison for committing 51 thefts, reports Al-Anba daily. According to security sources the suspect was arrested after police set a trap for him and caught him redhanded while attempting to break into a beauty parlor. Case papers indicate the suspect had robbed several beauty parlors in Jabriya, Salmiya, Hawally, Bneid Al-Gar and Sabah Al-Salem during weekends. During interrogations, the Syrian is said to have admitted to all the charges filed against him.
Mother killed: The Criminal Court sentenced a woman to 10-year imprisonment with hard labor after she was convicted of murdering her mother after she was denied permission to visit her father's grave. According to the security report, the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior received information on the fateful day about the death of an elderly Lebanese woman in Keifan area. Her daughter informed the police that her mother was suffering from old age problems and has gasped her last breath. However, the daughter, during investigations, admitted to killing her mother after battering her for about ten minutes until she died. The reason was that her mother refused to go with her to visit the grave of her deceased father.
American, Nepali jailed: The Criminal Court Tuesday sentenced two men — an American, and a Nepali – to three years imprisonment in absentia and fined them KD 20,000 each for violating the Environmental Protection Law, reports Al-Rai daily. The men are charged with poisoning, killing and burying 80 dogs in Mina Abdullah. The incident happened a year ago. According to a report received by the Environment Protection Department at the Ministry of Interior the American is a dog trainer and the Nepali is a nurse. The men reportedly drugged and poisoned the dogs after they became useless. The animals were then buried. A security source said the suspects managed to fl ee the country before a travel ban could be slapped against them. However, their names have been handed over to the Interpol to arrest them and bring them to justice.
