ABU DHABI 5th November 2015 (WAM) -- Five Higher Colleges of Technology - Abu Dhabi Women's College ADWC students recently became the first group of female Emirati students to climb Mount Fuji in Japan.

The group from the college's Adventure Club reached the summit of Japan's highest mountain at 3776 metres after a twelve-hour climb. The final push of the two-day climb began at 1 a.m. in complete darkness with only the light from their headlamps to guide them so the group could catch the magnificent sunrise above the clouds on the mountain.

The group was accompanied by Adventure Club leaders and General Studies faculty members Dr. Ewa Gajer and Brendan O'Connor as well as Fatima Al Ali a supervisor from the Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy the sponsor of the climb. The trip was another example of the cooperation between ADWC and the Academy aimed at raising awareness among Emirati women of healthy lifestyles and physical fitness.

This was the second major feat of the Adventure Club as two years ago a group of nine Emirati students from the club and the same two faculty members climbed the tallest mountain in Africa Tanzania's Mount Kilimanjaro with a summit at 5895 metres.
