Sudan's Al-Bashir sworn in for new presidential term

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir was on Tuesday sworn in for a new five-year term. The ceremony was attended by leaders, or representatives of about 20 countries.

Taking the oath before the parliament, Al-Bashri vowed to be president of all Sudanese people, "those who voted for me, and those who did not." "We are turning over a new leaf," with a new will for consensus, unity, comprehensive peace and development, he added in a statement.

Al-Bashir offered an amnesty to armed rebel groups "that are willing to join the march of peace," saying: "doors of dialogue are open for the opposition, at home and abroad." Al-Bashir, who came to power in 1989, won the elections held last April, securing 94 percent of the vote.

His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's Representative Dr. Abdullah Maatouq Al-Maatouq attended the inauguration ceremony.
