Gujarat: Engineering, pharmacy admissions to be completed in only two rounds

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) has decided to complete admission to engineering and pharmacy courses within two rounds from now onwards.

The admission process for the current year will begin after declaration of Std XII (science) results in the last week of this month.

Till last year, the admission was completed after four rounds, apart from one mock round.

The new decision has been taken to quicken the admission and start the classes early so that examinations could be held on time and results also declared without delay.

Speaking to the Indian Express, Commissioner (technical education) Anis Mankad said that the admission would be completed under any circumstances by July 31 and classes for the new term would begin from August 3.

Mankad said that the Admission Committee for Professional Courses(ACPC) had been instructed to execute it without any changes.

ACPC conducts centralised admission in all private and government engineering and pharmacy colleges affiliated to state-run Gujarat Technological University(GTU) based on the students' merit in the JEE(main) conducted at all India level. However, ACPC conducts admissions for students having studied in schools located within Gujarat only, irrespective of the education board they are affiliated with.

Elaborating the procedure, he said that after the mock round of seat allotments to students in different colleges based on their overall merit, four other rounds were conducted. If the student did not get a seat in a college of his choice in the first round, he again applied in the second round with his choice of the institutes and he/she repeated it twice again till they got the college of their choice or the last round of admission process ended.
